Alderman's case continued

A man charged with beating a county detention guard won’t appear in court again until Nov. 6. His case was continued Wednesday because he hasn’t had a court-ordered mental evaluation yet.

Jason Alderman is charged with attempted first-degree murder, first-degree kidnapping and misdemeanor escape from a local jail in what sheriff's deputies say was a failed jail escape that left a Cleveland County Detention Officer badly beaten in November 2005.

In July, David William Pace pleaded guilty for his role in the crime.

Pace, 32, was originally charged with trying to escape, kidnapping, common-law robbery and attempted first-degree murder had his charges reduced to conspiracy to commit first-degree kidnapping in a plea agreement. He was sentenced to about eight to 10 years in prison.

In other court news:

Brandi Goins Fletcher (a.k.a. Brandy Joe Goins) pleaded guilty to eight counts of felony breaking and entering, eight counts of felony larceny and eight counts possession of stolen goods.

District Attorney Bill Young said between November 2005 and January 2006, Goins, along with another individual, broke into about 10 out buildings stealing property including chainsaws. She then pawned some of the property.

Young said one of the victims went around to different pawns shops and found his property by matching serial numbers.

Goins was sentenced to four consective eight to 10 month sentences under the plea agreement. She will serve two active and two suspended.
